YZ - Marathi Movie

Marathi is the language native to the state of Maharashtra in India. Mumbai is the capital city and you might already be aware of the Hindi movie/Bollywood industry. However, the Marathi movies are really excellent and many a movie in Bollywood is just a sorry remake including the latest Sairat in Marathi remade into the Hindi movie - Dhadak.

Recently, I came across a Marathi movie - YZ on Amazon Prime. Although I cannot understand the Marathi language except for a few words here and there, there were English subtitles to help me understand. This post is about YZ

What is YZ about?

I am not going to pen the story of YZ as such but I will tell you what it is about and what got me interested in it.

Sagar Deshmukh plays the role of the history professor who is aged 33 and still single. He is transferred to Pune city where he lives with his aunt. He is literally ignored by the youth in his class which makes him insecure but is befriended by a student who agrees to teach him about how to carry himself with attitude. He meets a lady who is ready to marry him but feels that she is so not his type and breaks up. His pupil falls in love with his innocence and she makes a move but he backs off thinking she is too young and later on meets his long-lost childhood love but she is already in a live in relationship with her friend. She reminds him of his bucket list and he is surprised to find that he had written about touring the world when he was young but had forgotten all about it.

Gajanan as the character is named in the movie then takes leave of his parents who are not exactly supportive and feels free and starts on his journey. Meanwhile, Battees the student who taught him to be confident meets him and wishes him luck promising to join him soon.

Specialities of the movie

The storyline is not about yet another love story or violence or drama or mystery involved.

It tells beautifully about the insecurities of a human being and how he surpasses the usual dictates of society which does not allow a person to live his or her own dreams.

The songs are really beautiful and make you want to listen again and again. Not the rap type or fast songs which really have no meaning in relation to words or the movie itself.

I am sure you will love watching this movie. Please do, if you can spare the time. The expressions of the actor are above par and one does not need language to understand what he feels.
