Notting Hill - a feel good movie

I have always felt sympathy for celebrities. I mean when you look at their lives closely, you can feel their frustration when they are surrounded by cameras always and people don't give a care about what to speak or when.

Notting Hill plot

It's a movie that showcases the life of a celebrity actor Anna Scott and how she befriends an ordinary bookseller and gets to know his family and suddenly life is turned upside down when the paparazzi gets to know about it. They are angry and go their separate ways. William, the bookseller gets to know that Anna is back in his place and goes to visit her but is put off when she talks about him in a dismissive manner.
She comes back to his store and asks him to renew their friendship but he refuses. Later, his family and friends urge him to give her one more chance and they finally get to see her during one last press conference before she leaves for the states. They meet and yes, there is the happily ever after and the last scene depicts them relaxing in the community park.

Cast

Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant have both essayed their roles perfectly and I cannot imagine anyone else doing it better.

The supporting cast has actually made us feel that they are very real as well. It is as if they are living their roles instead of acting it and of course, the share of the credit does go to the director as well, Roger Michell and scriptwriter, Richard Curtis.

I am of the opinion that this is a feel-good movie and although the story does have a happy ending, it shows the painful experiences of celebrities and why they tend to have tantrums, probably.
