I don't know about other countries but in India we worship mountains too and it has been happening since Satyuga. According to Vedas we are into spirituality and worshipping Trees, Air, Sky, Land, Animals, Fire and Mountains.
Here is a holy mountain which worshipped by locals. They do not climb the mountain instead they built a small temple near the mountain. On the top you can see a pillar which is believed Lord Shiva.
