The Reason Behind Your Actions

When someone acts in a certain way and you enquire why they acted like that, they will always have a reason behind that. That someone has a reason does not make the reason right. Even when the reason is right, it may not be a good thing to do at that point. More so, that a reason is good does not also make it kind. The ultimate good is not to seek to be right at all times but to be kind. If the reason behind your actions is only to justify your rightness, then you are far from being kind.

Most times, to be kind, you have to suspend the feeling of rightness because being kind and being right are almost opposite. That is, to be right at all times may cost you your kindness. It is worthy to note that the world will not remember you for how many times you were right but they will only remember your acts of kind. So for the sake of your future memory and for the sake of posterity, being kind should come in lieu of being right.

You do not have to struggle to be right at all times. Sometimes, you can win a war without fighting a single combat. Sometimes, you will need only compromise to win the war. The solution to evil may not answer to rightness but to goodness. The truth is, everyone wants for others to do good to them right? However, goodness should also flow from you to others, so they can appreciate that too.

When someone errs against you, the first thing that may come to your mind will be to call the person out and maybe claim rights and allow judgement and justice to take its place. Well, in place of judgement, have you heard of mercy? Yes, the moment when you have mercy on someone for an offence they committed is a very important moment and may be what will set the person on the pathway of good.

Before you act or react against what someone did, try to ask yourself if your heart of kindness will be affected by the action. If you have reservations about the answer, then you have to allow kindness to lead. That someone is not your friend does not automatically mean you have to act badly to them. Remember this, even though everyone cannot be your friend but you should not classify them as enemy.

Many people have fulfilled many requirements of good and ethical living - like conquering of flaws, making of sacrifices, and even saving a friend. However, all these will not be complete if you do not also include "sparing an enemy." The truth is, when you do what is seemingly right but not good, you will know, and when you do what is good and kind, you will also know. You will agree with me that the feeling in the later (when you do what is good and kind) will be better and more pleasing that the former.

Whatever you do, always have in mind that someday, what will be left of you will be just memories. Now the question is, how will you want your memory be remembered in the minds of people after you have gone? When you have the future in view and at the back of your mind, you will know how to act and react in the present times. You do not have unlimited amount of years here on earth to waste them on creating enemies with your actions. So try to do what is good and kind, not just what is right.
