The Knowledge Of The Problems

Before a military formation goes to warfare or any battle, they will gather enough intel about their enemies to know about their weaknesses and their strengths. Knowing that you have a problem is the first requirement to getting it solved. Without knowing that a problem exists, you will not be moved to look for the solution.

A friend of mine once took a particular exam a few years back. When the result came out, he did not perform up to his expectation and it was not up to par. He quickly applied for a re-sit to have another shot at it. However, before the re-sit he got a very direct advice from one of his mentors which changed his way of thinking. He shared the advice with me and I found wisdom in it. Here's the advice and it is also applicable in this context:

If you do not tell yourself the honest reason why you failed in the first exam, you may also fail in the re-sit.

This means that if the root of the problem is not found, the solution may be far-fetched. Even in the academic world, in research methodology, for an experiment to be conducted and the analysis of result obtained, there must be a statement of problem. That is, you will need to give a clear and concise definition of what the existing problem is. This will help the researcher to find out ways to solve it.

It is popularly believed that "a problem that is known is a problem that is almost solved". You cannot solve a problem that you do not know it exists. Sometimes, people are the ones delaying the solution to their problems by being unaware of their problems in the first place. Recognizing that you have a problem is not wrong but finding an excuse for the problem is what makes it bad.

It is saddening that a vast majority of people, on realizing that they have problems, will quickly look for ways to blame someone else or something else. The moment they start trading blames or giving excuses to cover up their problems or challenges, they will not be solved and the problems will have the propensity to grow even further. When problem manifests, the best time to start dealing with it is at the infancy stage, because when the problems grows, it may become difficult.

If you shy away from acknowledging your challenges or if you try to convince yourself that they are nonexistent, it may weaken you. Just know that challenges are real, but the hope you have is that you have what it takes to put up a confrontation against them. This should give you hope that your victory is realer than the challenges themselves.

In conclusion, it is worthy to note that the only way to solve a particular problem is by coming to terms with the fact that the problem exists in the first place. So that it will not be like someone that is expending his whole energy beating against the air. The knowledge of the problem will give you the precision to target it and solve it.
