Riding On Your Challenges

Someone once told me something amazing about the eagles that have changed my perception about the bird. When the storm comes and when the winds become terrifying, other birds would hide for safety to avoid being swept off by the wind but the eagle's case is different. They will observe the direction of the wind and tilt their wings to flow with the wind. In this position, they will not need to flap their wings again but to leverage on the same wind that other birds are scared of to ascend higher.

From the case of the eagle, you will understand one thing, when challenges come, your success or failure is not dependent on the intensity of the challenge but on what you are made of and your readiness to face the challenge. The eagle is able to withstand the wind because of what it is made of and of course, its preparedness to ride on the storm. Instead of wishing for storms not to come, the right and better thing to do is to get yourself prepared for it. A friend of mine once made this particular statement:

You do not have to possess the ability to stop the winds, but you have the ability to direct your sail.

If you have ever watched yachting games in the Olympics, you will understand this. The yachts that the competitor use are not powered by any engine whatsoever but by the sheer power of the wind. What they need to do is to direct the sail to align with the speed and the position of the wind to move the yacht.

In the same way, the challenge that come to your do not always intend to halt you but it is for you to leverage on them so as to succeed. No wonder it has been said that "challenges and opportunities are birthed in the same place". While others are seeing challenges (just like the case of the other birds), successful people are seeing opportunities to rise high (just like the eagle).

You may not be able to predict exactly the way and fashion challenges will come but if you are prepared, you will take it on. Challenges are only a matter of time and they will come because it is not a question of "if." However, on the bright side of it, these challenges are what hold the key to accessing your next levels. Just like you cannot change classes in school without going through tests, you also will not access a level of success without challenges.

People are generally motivated to always hope for the best, but one thing you should also know is that what makes a general in the army is the presence of war. In view of this, you have to brace up for anything (including the worst). When challenges become weightier, it is a strong indication that there is something massive in it for you.

For you to stay long without encountering challenge or test, you should be worried because this is a subtle indication that you do not have anything at stake or you are not making progress. But when challenges come, know that you are making considerable progress.
