Dictionary describes endowment as a gift in a person and potential as a hidden ability to do something well. Such gifts and abilities need suitable environments to become activated and released. Five ways to discover your potentials and endowments are as follows.
One with the ability to become a millionaire but who lazily sleeps in the comfort of the parents’ great riches will end up dying of obesity in an idle bedroom. A person with the gifting to become a rich lawyer or medical practitioner but who refuses to work hard in school will end up in obscurity. Hard work is a principal tool to set in motion the dormant abilities in a person.
Exposure of oneself to a challenging environment and the determination to attack and eliminate the challenges bring out the best in the person for the benefit of mankind. Some people receive a divine assignment at birth by being born into the heart of challenges which they are endowed to eradicate. Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Saviour of the world, was born when his people were facing terrible Roman domination and Herod the Great was searching for him to destroy him. Moses, Israel’s deliverer, who lived earlier, came into the world when the innocent male babies of the Israelites in Egypt were placed under death sentence to be drowned in the Nile River the moment they were born. The harsh background, I believe, was meant to be the whetting stone to sharpen talents and potentials. Louis Pasteur, a great Scientist and Researcher, was born when his age-mates were dying of bacterial infection from food and drinks. Noticing his endowments to provide an answer, he trained in schools to doctorate degree and invented a technique for destroying harmful microorganisms in foods and drinks, and also developed a vaccine for tackling certain diseases. Jonas Salk who entered the world by birth during the era of a dreadful, deadly Polio infection became the originator of Polio vaccine. It is therefore not awkward to assert that each person on earth carries the needed potentials and endowments to tackle the prevailing problem at the time of his/her birth. Any concerted effort to tackle the problems you were born into often sets your hiding abilities into motion and provides relief to hurting humanity.
Get acquainted with people’s needs and develop passion to render help. Any problem that makes sudden appearance in your presence seeks your inputs of energy, talents and resources. The ugly practice of shying away from responsibilities is a debilitating act which keeps the victims in the dungeon of unending predicaments. Answers and solutions to problems come out of their hiding as people ponder on puzzles with a determination to take necessary action.
Passion means a strong interest in something; an unquenchable desire. The passion to embark on particular activities is an indicator of a person’s giftedness. That area you have an urge and prompting to get involved is the indicator of the potentials and endowments you carry. Putting your energy into an area of interest and aligning your career and vocations with that interest will often elevate you in life.
History informs us that our father in the Lord, Billy Graham-a foremost, international evangelist, early in life discovered in himself the passion to win souls and so trained himself to master the art of soul winning. Today he has become a reference point in Evangelical Christianity. For Sir Edmund Hillary, we were told that he had the passion to climb something early in life and so trained for mountain climbing. Before long he achieved the laurel of the first man to reach the topmost point at Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. An unquenchable craving to write, deliver lectures and work for God which I discovered in myself during my University days gave rise to my choice to train as a preacher and be ordained as a full-time gospel minister. Doing such things for which I am endowed fill me with delight and satisfaction.
Don’t allow your potentials and endowments to be abandoned to disuse. Fulfilment of your destiny is tied to them.
