The Tale of Christine Moore Continues

Over the last week, Christine Moore, the New Democratic Party Member of Parliament who was accused of harassing a Canadian veteran badly wounded during the Afghanistan War, has laid relatively low. She was suspended from the Party while an independent investigation was opened.
Since then, she has resurfaced, speaking to CBC News about the allegations. She says she is preparing a defamation lawsuit. She spoke about how she can disprove the allegations, which only time will tell. Perhaps this will play out similar to the events surrounding the Patrick Brown scandal, the former leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, who effectively destroyed the allegations surrounding him and is now suing CTV News, Rachael Aiello (the journalist who wrote the story) and the women who accused him of misconduct and sexual harassment.
But Christine Moore talked about how "mean" this allegation against her. She says she has proof that her and the veteran, Kirkland, had a relationship for 4 months. Again, only time and an investigation will tell who is telling the truth.
To me, what doesn't make sense is the reason for Kirkland to level a false allegation at this time. It had been years since the event and Kirkland, who is not accusing Moore of forcing herself on him or anything of the sort, said he only brought them forward because Moore was a key player in bringing down NDP MP Erin Wier and, back in 2014, was also responsible for the ousting of 2 Liberal MPs, Pacetti and Andrews, from their caucus. Kirkland stated that he brought the allegations forward because he thought that Moore was displaying a lot of hypocrisy by accusing Weir of misconduct while she had committed similar acts herself.
As the story unfolds, we will see who is telling the truth and who is lying
