Dear @Dtube #33 // Steem hits a very important one million users milestone but it’s retention plus engagement that will sustain the journey.

we reached a very important milestone yesterday on the steem blockchain, one million users. it’s a figure that the ‘general’ public understand rather than the seasoned users that have been on the platform for a long time, it’s a psychological number that means ‘let’s have a look’ and see what this is all about.

it’s also a perfect time to push a new version of condenser, communities and any other new stuff they have ready — i’m not sure that’s gonna be the case but it would have been a good number to align this million users goal with seeing as you could predict the growth curve of signups.

i’m really interested in the engagement and retention numbers of the platform rather than the million users. in fact, i kinda like the handful maybe under twenty people i’ve made virtual connections and relationships with, those are like my digital family — i truly believe you gravitate towards the people you are meant to be with, work with, hang out around.

one thing i noticed was that this app.co popped up and it was kinda interesting how that came about and who it was from. i watched a little bit of the consensus 2018 crypto conference where @ned spoke with a bunch of other people including the bloke from blockstacks — the guys who put up app.co, a portal for dAPPS, it was funny to seem them put steem front and centre but really that whole site is a desperate attempt to keep block-stacks relevant ;) — but whatever, free promotion, not like we need it!

so where are we going from here? do you have any predictions about what’s next for steem, are you still excited for the platform or are you already looking around at other programs and platforms? are their features missing or upcoming that you are excited about? are you considering using the hosting platforms for video and live streaming in @dtube and @dlive i’d love to hear from you because it seems the world is going decentralised really really quickly these days — everything is changing fast.

personally i think we need to do a lot more on boarding for retention here and we certainly need to concentrate our efforts on the social side if that app.co is anything to go by, we simply are too far down that list for me — i still can’t believe that steem is not in the top 10 or talked about in high regard because people are only looking at market cap.

this is great technology, battle tested, been through many iterations from community feedback, people are turning up and working on their content and message each day, we need to mobilise that content for our advantage, i think the next bunch of videos are going to be around STEEM as a platform and i need to get my writing hat on to get some solid productions going — even thou my initial steem course got forty students i know i can be doing a lot more to really hammer home how good this platform is.

right, i’m out — i’ve got birthday girl logistics to sort out today as my daughter’s birthday is coming up in a week and i want to be on top of that, wrapped presents, balloons, logistics, the whole works, even thou she’s eleven i want her to have a great day before she heads away with family and if i time it right i can jump on a plane too — wish me luck, i’m gonna need it!

We are now using STEEM to have little ‘pots’ or ‘savings’ for our funds together (+ @dayleeo) this way we can transfer and load with zero fees (plus take donations) all open and transparent — for extra protection we put our STEEM in savings and also use steemify to track transfers on the accounts — we save for @upgrades to equipment, our @transition between countries, any money needed for @paperwork (visas etc.. ) and towards buying a teardrop @pullalong stateside
