Even though Discord is primarily for gamer communities, it gained popularity among developers and crypto enthusiast as well. There is a load of servers related to various developer stuff, coins etc. Just check out this list. It's no surprise, that Discord is that popular. It's cheaper than Slack and performance wise Discord trumps most rivals. Not to mention very low footprint.
I guess, Microsoft recognizes those qualities as well, since just recently they partnered up with Discord to connect gamers across Xbox Live ecosystem and Discord. Congrats to Discord team!
