MJ spent his entire life fighting family, friends and fans, that I can only imagine the psychological damage he endured. He probably didn't even know his choices were the result of experiencing trauma himself, so as you said, it can be very hard to get people to see the truth. And yes, his father abused him, bullying him about his nose all though his childhood. Horrific.
