FAIRFIELD — A Berkeley Road man is facing drug charges after he failed to stop for a stop sign early Tuesday morning and allegedly confessed to selling marijuana.
Alex Barreto, 21, who lives on Berkeley Road, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has also issued an infraction for failure to stop for a stop sign.
An officer on patrol around 4 a.m. saw Barreto run through the stop sign at Berkeley and Tunxis Hill roads and pulled him over.
According to the police report, Barreto told the officer he couldn’t stop for the stop sign because of his excessive speed.
A marijuana grinder was spotted on the floor of the car and, at first, Barreto told officers it belongs to a friend. Later, he allegedly admitted to having about 8 grams of pot in his backpack and to sell it. The report states that Barreto then told officers he had another quarter pound of pot at his home and over $2,000 in sale proceeds.
Barreto cooperated with police and brought them to the house, even calling his mother first to make sure the family’s four dogs were secured. In his room, police found 133.5 grams of marijuana and a roll of cash.
He was released on a promise to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on July 10.
