Summer report 2021

In the sake of transparency, and as we approach mid-year, here's something of a "quarterly report." The intent here is to offer sort of a state-of-the-LUV synopsis.

Looking back

LUV was started on a bit of a whim. On Valentine's Day, February 14, there was a lot of love talk. Imagine that. For some reason I combined that with Hive-Engine tokens, looked at how to make a token, noted I was "working on a project" with this buzz which unveiled the 10-second hand-drawn logo, then started LUV two days later.

From day 1 goal was to share love on Hive, hence, the name, "LUVshares." That goal has been somewhat formalized into a mission statement: The goal of LUVshares is to spread love around the Hive blockchain.

LUV has come a long way in its infancy.

  • A LUV market was born. The first LUV transaction and has grown into something much more mature. (see gif images below)
  • A few NFTs have been created and sold.
  • The LUVstore has been set up where NFTs can be purchased...LUV accepted here! (as well as other Hive-Engine tokens). And a LUV Pizza Day was established.
  • LUV levels were created and LUV Legends were born (complete with badges to prove it).
  • Hive users have created art, see below.
  • Personally, I've learned a lot coding-wise, market-wise, people-wise, and just about me. The LUVbot animation of Loov banging on the bot sums up a whole lot about me and how I do things.
  • Of the 26,000 LUV circulating supply, the vast, vast majority have been given from one Hive user to another. I would estimate 20 of the 26,000 (77%) have been gifted to others. Since the airdrop is over and LUV is now only emitted via the bot, that percentage will only increase. That's the goal.

At this point, new LUV is only released into the market by Hive users sharing LUV via the LUVbot. This is what was described as the "Proof-of-Love" "mining" algorithm. This is different in that your efforts don't reward you, but your efforts rewards others.

Looking forward

Looking to the future, I return to the past. They say the best predictor of future performance is past performance. Particularly, I look to LUV's goal: to spread love on Hive. So, the number one goal in the future is to maintain the ability for Hive users to share LUV via the LUVbot.

I've considered the option of staking, but cannot convince myself that staking a token shares love with others. Of course, there are benefits to staking, but I'm not sure that sharing love with others is one of them. You never say never, so perhaps things will change my mind on this in the future, but not now. My goal is to stubbornly stick to the plan.

Summary and final thoughts

I'm happy that I started LUV and I'm thankful that it seems to largely have been well-received. I think LUV is serving a useful purpose for Hive and hope that it continues to serve a role for positivity going forward.

LUV should be shared. Share the LUV.
