The innocence of an angelic goddess

Standing at the top of the bridge that connects the tower of the Zaveid empire to a grand, black building that stands a few millimeters higher than the white tower, one could see the world from the highest possible vantage point the place could offer without being in space. And from there one could see the beauty of the city bathed in the yellow lights of the sunset, the great Zaveid city. The greatest city on the greatest planet in the greatest interstellar empire of the galaxy. The city was a fairy tale come to real-life by the greatest artificing of the Zaveid people, a civilization that had mastered the craft of metaphysics more than a thousand years ago.

Poking her head from behind the pillar which gave her a view of the city, the young girl, barely older than 13, made sure that her sight was unobstructed. She was after all, looking for something, looking for someone, someone very important to her. Something once lost to her, but now found, now the most important thing in the whole universe to her; no not someone, something. The thing that she was looking for was her… 'pet'.

A small grey blob like creature with soft body like iron armor, swishing tentacle-like antenna, and strange irregular shaped red eyes could make one swear that it is nothing more than a strange tangle of metal. The thing was sitting motionless on a massive pillar, sitting motionless on the pillar, looking neither right nor left, neither up nor down, and did not even like to stay in one place for longer than a minute or two.

The alien of course, did not like to be caught by the wind; she was definitely tossed too many times by it to be comfortable. Standing motionless was the only thing it did. The black thing, like its pet, was not like any other unknowns that she had ever found. It was like the kid, like the kid that her father had gotten for her. He was her favorite; she even named it.

Now because it was so very important to her, she made sure that she looked correctly before she moved. Looking carefully around before she did anything, she did not want to be tricked again, but her finding her own father's sacrifice worthless once more because he was fooled by a wrong person this time around, was the breaking point.

Now what could she do to stop this, to find her father before he got hurt? She already did her best, she was definitely objective enough to look for the right one, the right thing, the right person. She wasn't really sure whether her method was working, but she was sure that it had to be worth a try. No getting the wrong details again.

"Why you going to look at them one more time?" a deep, powerful voice asked. So that's what annoyed it

"You did not want me to look at them before?"

"No, I did not ask you to."

"Then why would I do it again?"

"I think because you are not very objective. I think, you are looking for a thing, a thing that you want too much to get, but you do not get because you cannot get it. Then you go look at them one more time so that you can find out whether they find what you want. If they do not, you keep looking, but if they do, so be it. It does not have to do with love, or caring. You are just looking after they are."

Shrugging, the young goddess did not seem very happy with the idea. "What do you mean, don't you care whether they find the thing I want? They are already doing it, which means they are working on it, which means it must be important to me. Why should I stop caring?"

"Because they are not doing it for you. They are doing it for them. What they are doing is only important to them. It is not important to you."

"That is not true. They get reward if they get it. If it leads to reward, it is important to them."

"If it leads to reward, it is only important to them. It is not important to you. You are looking after them are doing things that they are important to you."

"What are you saying. I said they are doing it for my prize. I said they are doing it for me."

Undeterred, the voice shrugged. "They are doing for you, because it is the only way they know to find what they want. They are doing it because it is important to them to find what they want. It is not their job to find what you want; it is their job to find what they want. Your prize is not important to them. You cannot blame them if they do not care about your prize when they do not care about your prize when they do not even know that your prize exists.
