Grooming A Successor: Replicating Yourself In Others

Success always comes in various forms but for it to be sustained to form a legacy, you must have successors or your ideas may just end with you. This is why a successful person without someone to succeed him is already a disguised failure. Someone's success level is not a function of the material possession the person has stacked up but how he has been able to groom others to be as successful too.

So many great achievements have lasted generations simply because the achievers deemed it feat to groom others to take after them. Your achievement and your successes are like seeds, they will only tend to multiply and grow to become great if they are planted, and not when they are bottled up in a jar.

One of the reasons many great organizations and corporations have been swept off their feet is because they only focused on getting themselves better without raising the younger ones that will take their place. The slogan "children are the future leaders" has become so popular but will this be possible if the older ones do not relinquish their knowledge to them?

Hoarding your knowledge and keeping your successes to yourself may not help you in the long run. If you want your name to be recorded in the sands of time and in the memory of others, then you need to replicate yourself in others. This is actually the reason behind mentor and mentee (or apprenticeships programs).

Sharing the knowledge and successes you have with others should not been seen as a special favour you do to them but it should be considered as the good you do to yourself.

Many of us know about Heinz products. The brain behind the company died in the 19th century but the products are still very much around today and have become household names. The reason behind this is, he had people to succeed him even after demise. When thinking success, do not only think about the immediate, think also of what the future will hold. If your success is only based on the the present, then it is myopism. Remember, posterity will not remember you for acquiring weath but for creating legacy.
