I'm not a great believer in Conspiracy Theories. Yes, there are some actual conspiracies for sure, but on the whole, you can make anything look suspicious you really can, however, I've been giving COVID-19 some thought. I'm starting to wonder if there is, in fact, something behind the comments one or two people have made on Social Media about how this is all some big-government plan deliberately implemented. On the surface, any sane person might ask themselves: "Hang on a minute, how can destroying the economy, killing thousands of people be in the interest of any government?" and then I remembered that scene from The Fith Element where Zorg explains Creativity and how destruction creates work. OK, that doesn't translate exactly but!

In the UK the high street has been in decline for years, every Christmas we hear how shops have done badly, and it's all because of that evil On-Line shopping with Amazon for example. Most of our streets are full of coffee shops, fast food outlets and the mandatory charity shop that has become commonplace on our streets today while we see the likes a Debenham's, Marks & Spencer struggling to stay afloat.

If I believed in conspiracy theories it would seem that COVID and the so-called Lock-Downs that we see worldwide might be a good way to kill off lots of businesses that have been refusing to die for years. You could argue that the market for selling over-priced coffee has become too flooded and COVID could help to thin the competition out as businesses go under?

Now we come to my most contentious suggestion; COVID solves a lot of social problems. It kills off the elderly so the state can stop shelling out hundreds of thousands of pounds not only prolonging peoples lives but also providing shelter and care plus there is an added bonus in that those who owned their own homes, lots of lovely vacant properties on the market. It kills off the poor who are more likely to succumb given their surroundings and environment, so there will be a saving too in social welfare costs. "But surely any government needs a population?" I hear you ask. It does, and it will have, it will have a Taxpaying population "But there are no jobs?" ah, but there is, there's been a lot of deaths remember and have you forgotten Zorg? We're going to need a lot of people to put things right.

Last but not least, share prices are going to shoot through the roof. If you're an investor I'd probably suggest buying shares in airlines and holiday tour operators as everyone clamours to 'Get Away' once all this is over. Pharmaceuticals are doing a roaring business at the moment as is anything to do with healthcare. Here in the UK, the NHS is expected to spend £134 Billion by the end of 2020 just think how much money has been made out of supplying PPE and cleaning products since March? Not to mention all the protective measures in businesses such as plastics, signs and tape.

From John Heywood's dialogue of 1546 "It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good" Of course, none of this is true, I made it all up! Nobody could possibly implement such a catastrophic total world pandemic simply to make a few quid and reset the population count, could they?
