If I watch another commercial, I'm going to freak out. I paid for TV shows, not commercials!!

Does something seem really wrong here?

Back in the 70's, a TV show would say "now we take a little break from our sponsors". Sure enough a "couple" of commercials would come on, and they'd go right back to a television show. 10% of the hour long show would be filled with advertisements. 90% of the show would be "the show"

In 2016, 40% of the hour is TV commercials, and only 60% is the "TV Show"

How much will the audience tolerate they wonder?

We will tolerate lots!! Our cable and satellite TV bills are higher than ever. It use to be $25/month to have full cable package. Now it is normal to pay $75 to $125/month for the same service, and now we have more commericals than ever.

It is getting to the point, that sometimes you wonder "is the TV show coming back on? It's been 12 minutes already and counting! I'm on my 12th commercial!"

So what do you do? You flip through the program guide. You look for something else interesting to watch for the next 5 or 6 minutes, just so you don't have to sit through another commercial.

Sure enough, the alternate station is showing commercials too! How is it that they can show commercials at the exact same time as the other station? What is this, a conspiracy? Are they in cahoots with one another?

Actually they are.. it is not uncommon for one major corporation to own multiple TV shows, on multiple channels. I think I read once that 95% of TV shows are all owned only by 5 major corporations.

That's fine.. own it all. Have a monopoly on all of it. Force feed me commercials until the sun goes down. But gosh darn, give TV, cable and satellite for free then!

Why do I have to pay for TV if you're going to berade me with non-stop advertisements?

TV should be free. It really should be.. SERIOUSLY!

Remember satellite radio? The selling point was "satellite radio. commercial free"...

Why does that only work for radio?

We all just take it sitting down (like a couch potato). I guess we get what we deserve.
