Raksha Wisdom - Piano

Today I was looking through some of my old music and was reminded of a time when I loved to play piano.

I play every Sunday but its not the same, I play church music. There's nothing quite like getting the sheet music of your currently favorite song and learning to play it.

Here are some beginner things to know when it comes to the piano.

What is a Piano:

A Piano is a musical instrument that falls part of the Chordophone class. This means the sound is created by a string stretched between two points.

A Piano has 88 keys of which 52 are white and 36 are black. To me the smoothest and most beautiful keys are Ivory keys.

What is a Piano made of:

A piano is normally a wooden frame with keys on display. Inside, these keys are longer than you think, this is because the end needs to reach the strings inside. The end of the keys have a hammer like effect.

When you press down on the key the opposite end will hit the corresponding string to create the sound.

There are pedals at the bottom of the piano, these are used to dampen or sustain the sound. This is done by either pressing a felt covered block against the strings or the sustaining pedal will keep the keys away from the strings so as to extend the sound initially created.

Things to remember:

A Piano needs to feel comfortable to you, you need to enjoy the sound. Some of the most expensive piano's do not appeal to me because of these two things. If you ever buy a piano make sure you love it, don't go for the most expensive and don't take something because its cheaper, you will regret it later.
