#goodtoknow: Your Body on MEDITATION (Set free your internal drugs)

Meditation is the most common way to connect the mind with the world around us in absolute oneness. A regular practice can calm your brain and immune system. It is even proved to increase the health of your heart. I will list a few other benefits:

Brain

After a couple of weeks of regular meditation activity in the right amygdala is decreased which is associated with a better stress response.

Mind

Meditation engages neural systems which is associated with amplified empathy. Also memory and focus is improved massively. Not to forget the reduction of anxiety and fears.

Heart

With the help of proper breathing the heart gets to work in optimal condition which can very important to prevent a stroke. You may even reduce your blood pressure.

Fat

For all you guys who want to reduce some belly fat: By meditating you can lower the stress hormone cortisol helping decrease belly fat.

"So, Caspar, you mention all these benefits but how can I start? Plus I can't sit still for more than a minute. I will never be able to meditate!"

Caspar: Oh don't say this, I will give you two very simple techniques. But remember that great things take time. And the key is persistence.

Type 1 (First 3 steps can take place everywhere and can also only be like 30 second sessions):

  • Close your eyes
  • Inhale with your nose
  • Only focus on breathing
  • Advanced: Do this in a quiet place and sit down doing the steps above. Additionally you count from 100 down to 0. When you reached 0 you start again from 30 downwards. You have to let happen what happens. Don't get excited or judge your mood. Just enjoy the emptiness.

Type 2: Cold Shower Meditation

*Before you switch the water to the coldest you take a deep breath.

  • Then you focus on breathing calmly. Eyes closed is beneficial.
If you focus on your breath only you begin to forget the pain of the cold water or you get used to it.

As you can see meditation is actually nothing else than focusing on your breath/nothing. Because the breathing is so rooted in the stem of the brain it gets a no brainer and begins to feel as you focus on nothing. If you achieve this state of emptiness in your brain and mind you will start to better yourself in many aspects of life.

Let me know your thought and experiences on this topic. And I encourage you to participate in the discussion below.

If you liked it please

and resteem to share the knowledge of meditating.

Caspar
