San Diego Comic Con 2017

Day One

So, today was a day filled with exciting panels and huge crowds as that time of year rolls around, again. Once again the streets of San Diego look like all the characters from all of your favorite pop culture have crawled out of the screens and come to sunny Southern California for the greatest meetup of the year.

Didn't spend too much time on the floor today, as today was the day all the panels I wanted to attend were overlapping, causing me to run from one end of the convention center, to the other, not wanting to miss a second of any of them. But the brief moment I did spend on the floor did not disappoint.

Once again the Star Wars passion was out in full force. It has definitely dethroned Star Trek as the biggest pop culture reference here at the Con, much to my pleasure.

Marvel, of course making big waves again with the popularity of all the movies and tv shows being released, reawakening the love of comic books and the superhero genre. DC, there just as strong with Wonder Woman, and the Justice League creating huge anticipation at the box office.

There were, of course all the greats. Like Robotech. I used to love this show as a kid. Couldn't miss an episode. Always knew what time to be home, and in front of the television to catch the next adventures of Rick Hunter as he battled the Zentradi. Been waiting for the live action movie to finally be finished. Unfortunately it has been in production limbo for several years, but hopefully soon, the news will break that it will be coming our way!!

left to right: Ralph Garman (Starred with him in Family Guy and well-known HUGE Batman fan), Kevin Smith (Fatman on Batman, renown comic book geek), Lee Meriwehter (Co-starred with Adam West on the old Batman TV show as Cat Woman), and James Tucker (Producer Batman; Return of the Caped Crusaders)
But probably the most moving part of today's adventure was the tribute to Adam West. A beloved icon taken earlier this year as he lost his battle with Leukemia. People touched by him, and the work he did, along with the kind hearted good man he was talked about their first encounters, their experiences with, and their love of the beloved Batman star. It was a touching and emotional panel and a fitting tribute to one of pop-cultures greatest heroes.
