Girls Trafficking in Nepal - Women And Girls Being Considered “A Commodity”

Nepal is a country where women have managed to come beyond the four walls of their house and work for their living on their own. Nepalese women have definitely proved themselves not only as good housewives but also as successful professionals. In a country where people follow views that males are superior and dominant, women have been trying to prove the stereotype wrong. All thanks to education and awareness. But in return, has the country been able to provide a safe shelter for the women? Has the country been able to provide equal career opportunities to women in comparison to men? I suppose not yet.

It is estimated that thousands of vulnerable Nepalese women and girls fall victim to girls trafficking in India each year. Girl trafficking is one of the serious problems of Nepal. Many of them are forced into prostitution, have their organs removed and sold, or end up as domestic slaves. From rural areas, illiterate girls, who are suffering from poverty, are brought to cities by brokers on the pretext of good jobs. They are sold specially in various cities of India and forced to become a prostitute in a brothel.

Girl trafficking is an illegal act. The act of selling girls is proved to be an aggression upon them. They are trafficked and left at brothel where they are compelled to act as prostitutes. Most of girls are trafficked and left at brothel by their own relatives. And thus aggression crosses the boundary. Moreover, they suffer from AIDS or other venereal diseases infected by their clients. They need good care of their health, love and affection from their near and dear ones which is probably impossible because of fearness. They discard them and even drive them away. Such life is the futile life. So, trafficking is the greatest crime and the most humiliated act which must be driven out.

Girl traffickers lure the girls and their parents and relatives in many ways. The trafficked girls receive nothing but their owners receive income by using them. The girls do not have chance to go out from a trap. For this purpose, girl traffickers have selected some mediators. They lure mediators as well in context to money. Some mediators sell some other girls engaged in carpet, garment etc. They most do what they are ordered to do and act. These girls live a hard and miserable life.
