An uncertain sky in a nodal paradise

She had found the box on an airship. It contained a sidearm, and a letter.

Before she opened it, she read a few of the lines: "…Willow Summers...born in the hellmouth in Los Angeles called Sunnydale...slayer…information…things…"

She hadn't opened the box since she'd found it, but she had carried it with her, her hand gripped over the clasp of the box tightly, as if holding it would give her some sort of strength.

The letter was addressed to "Young Willow." She had to read it. She was curious.

Since she had left her family, she had been to many places, but this one in particular caught her eye.

"Dear Willow Summers…"

The casual words and the name "Sunnydale" had made her stop before she had even read the first sentence. She had been raised to hate Los Angeles, but hadn't realized there was a town called Sunnydale, in a mostly sea-bound area, far from LA.

She continued.

"You are cordially invited to an all-day conference on the 28th of March, in a town called Sunnydale. The town is a small and secluded bay area with a history of close-knit communities and crime-free areas. Twenty years ago, this town had been known for their advanced population of livestock, but when a small woman came to this town to set up shop, this town came to be known as Sunnydale.

"She was a wise woman and a talented demon-witch, centuries old. She had fled to the country when the Slayer had been changing, and the Slayer Council had been tracking down and killing those who had ever been a Slayer… this woman was running away, and ended up in this town. She lived in this town, and called herself by the name 'Annabelle.' She had fled from LA, but had been chased from town to town by the Council.

"When she decided to take up her life in this town and set up a school for supernatural children in the local school, she told the stories of what she knew of this town. She told of the council and she spoke of the sea. She knew, of course, the sea was dangerous for any who crossed it. She knew of the pirates, but she also knew of a few other more terrifying beasts that lurked in the waters, and she had warriors for that. But she had no warriors for there to be a school in her new town.

"With her trusty assistants, who she called the Scooby Gang, she trained the children to fight the creatures of the night. She knew the dangers of the streets in LA, or Sunnydale. The children did not. She trained them all; she taught them to be the warriors of Sunnydale. She trained them with witches spells and ancient weapons.

"With the help of the children, they would take down a few demons that managed to slip past the school's wards and head to town. They would capture the demons in the school. The local people who were not aware of the school's secrets did not mind.

"Sunnydale was a peaceful town, one of the few that was truly peaceful. And they would keep it that way.
