Roughly 1 million peaceful individuals are arrested for marijuana every year, of those arrests 88% are for simple possession. Roughly 2.3 million people are currently serving prison terms for marijuana related charges.
Some will look at those numbers, and think "So, well they broke the law, break the law go to jail. It is that simple." Well to those people I ask "Do you drink?" Remember that not that long ago Alcohol was illegal, and people were being locked up for having a drink or two. Do you think it would be right to lock you up for having a drink? How about the Jim Crow laws? Was it right to lock black people up for walking into a restaurant, or grocery store? Laws are not the end all be all, and they have little to do with morality. Laws are the rules forced upon us for arbitrary reasons mostly. Almost all illegal drugs are safer than many prescription drugs, and alcohol. There is no rational reason as to which drugs are legal, and which ones are not.
Support legalization in your state by contacting NORML, or the Marijuana Party in your state. Both these groups are working hard to legalize marijuana nation wide. If you do not have ether of these groups in your state, I strongly suggest you start a chapter up.
