The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched the communication satellite GSAT-30 from the European Space Agency on 17 January 2020 via the Ariane-5 launch vehicle. This launch was done at 2:35 PM Indian time. This is ISRO's first mission this year i.e. 2020. About 38 minutes and 25 seconds after launch, the satellite was placed in orbit.
GSAT-30 will replace INSAT-4A and will have greater coverage capacity. INSAT-4A was launched in the year 2005. This satellite provides coverage to the Indian mainland and islands in the Ku band, Gulf countries in the C band, a large number of Asian countries and Australia. This is the 24th satellite of India, which has been launched by the Ariane rocket of Arianespace.
Currently ISRO has plans to launch 25 satellites including Aditya-L1 satellite. The Aditya L1 mission is planned to be launched by mid-2020. This mission can play an important role in understanding and predicting climate change on Earth. ISRO launched six launch vehicles and seven satellite missions last year.
What is GSAT-30?
GSAT-30 is a very powerful and important communication satellite of GSAT series. With the help of this satellite, the country's communication system will increase further. Currently 14 satellites of GSAT series are working. Due to this satellite, communication system is maintained in the country. It is also the most powerful communication satellite of the country so far. GSAT-30 has been completely designed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

With the help of GSAT-30, the country's communication system, television broadcasting, news management via satellite, geospatial facilities working for society, meteorological information and forecasting, pre-dissemination of information and search and rescue operations of disasters will be increased. After the launch of this satellite, the country's communication system will be further strengthened. With its help, new internet technology is expected to be introduced in the country.
Why was this satellite needed?
The age of the country's oldest communication satellite 'INSAT Satellite' is now being completed. New technology of Internet is coming in the country. Optical fibers are being laid. Work is underway on 5G technology. Because of this a more powerful satellite was needed. GSAT-30 Satellite will meet these requirements.
How long will GSAT-30 work?
After the launch of GSAT-30, India will continue to work on the earth for 15 years. It will be installed in the geo-elliptical orbit. It will have two solar panels and a battery which will provide energy to it.
Total mission duration
GSAT-30 weighs about 3100 kg. This will work in place of INSAT Satellite. This will increase the ability to provide communication links to state-run and private service providers. The total duration of this mission will be 38 minutes 25 seconds. This will be the 107th Ariane 5th Mission.
