When Discussion of "Information War" IS Informationwar
Addressing computational propaganda and disinformation is not about arbitrating truth. It’s about responding to information warfare—a cybersecurity issue—and it must be addressed through collaboration between governments responsible for the safety of their citizens and private industry responsible for the integrity of their platforms.
Wired Magazine throws this goodspeak at us with the implication that Information War is solely the result of foreign agency and hostile governments. Who did NOT get mentioned in this discussion as to why we should abandon our media to the control of Big Brother?

Could AI-Driven Info Warfare Be Democracy’s Achilles Heel? provides a similar theme, again, with no mention of any other entity that could be hostile to Americans. Same song, different byline.

The technology to fake videos, photographs and sound clips is now so good even Hollywood is increasingly using digital actors. Moreover artificial intelligence can weave these fakes into a superficially self-consistent universe of lies creating a false narrative whose fraudulence can only be exposed by painstaking comparison to reality. Naturally this has sent a Washington bruised by the populist uprising scrambling for defenses. "To address the democratization of disinformation, governments, civil society, and the technology sector therefore cannot rely on algorithms alone, but will instead need to invest in new models of social verification, too,"

The internet was born through universities, hobbyists and neglected labs. It was experimentally libertarian. Two generations later it’s controlled by a handful of monopolistic tech firms whose leaders and employees are dogmatically leftist. Most users haven’t cared much as the local BBS and then the forum gave way to centralized platforms like Facebook. But centralization represented a cultural and political shift. Freedom ceased to be part of the internet’s innate technological DNA and instead became an eccentricity that Big Tech temporarily tolerated because it made the tech companies money.

The socialist left were the biggest beneficiaries of the DNC hacks. The stolen emails confirmed claims by the Bernie campaign that the process had been rigged against them. It justified their campaign to clean up the mess by taking over the DNC while wiping out key Democrats who had been opposed to them.
Did the Russians Hack the DNC to Help the Left Take Over the Democrats?
The left was also the political movement with the richest and deepest connections to Russian intelligence. The media claims that Putin and his old KGB comrades are the natural allies of the right, but the alliance between the far left and Russian intelligence agencies dates back almost a century.
And as I have noted before, control of information does not always mean propaganda.
Sometimes, it is controlling the flow of information, such as preventing the public understand how effective policy is, or is not.
The education establishment and its political allies are not eager to disturb the status quo of ignorance.
