As I said in my last post, I'm preparing to drive for the first time at the age of 33 in Washington State (WA), in America. Here are some practice questions & answers below. When your vehicle is facing uphill, how should you turn your steering wheel, which way? A. towards the curb? B. away from the curb? C. parallel to the curb? D. towards the right? The answer is, away from the curb. Why? Because if your car begins to backslide, to roll, to tumble, it may then slip towards the curb instead of down onto the street, into traffic, which can cause collisions, larger disasters than that found on like sidewalks, the lesser of two evils.

A. should you step on it & speed, go faster? B. refrain from putting your foot on the brake? C. keep your foot on the gas pedal (accelerator)? D. increase your speed? E. hold the steering wheel, tightly? The answer is E, hold tightly & keep the vehicle going straight.

What should you do when coming up to service animals, to deaf, mute, silent, disabled, pedestrians, people, with service pets? A. should you stop? B. should you honk your horn? C. turn on your headlights? D. go slowly? The answer is A, you should stop. In other cases, with normal pedestrians, you may yield. You may see yellow yielding signs. What are the yellow signs? They're yielding signs. What does yield mean? It means submit. It means to slow down. Be careful. You should be courteous. You should be careful. Better safe than sorry. But careful than a murderer. Don't confuse people with honking if you can, if you don't have to. Don't try to terrify them too much. Yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.

Understanding Signs

When you see a yellow road sign with two arrows going in opposite directions, divided by a black divide (median, divider), it means the road is splitting ahead. Keep right.

Transit Reserved

If a road is reserved for transit only, what does that mean? A. buses only? B. trucks only? C. bicycles only? D. high occupancy vehicles (HOV) only? The answer is A, buses only. Public transportation, only. The roads are reserved for special use.

What is a flashing red light?

A. a merging sign? B. a stop sign? C. a do not enter sign? D. a yield sign? I wrote D, but I was wrong. The answer is B, a stop sign. It might be flashing to get your attention, but red is still red, even if it is flashing.

What does that mean? A. a narrow road ahead? B. a right turn ahead? C. railroad crossing? D. road repair work ahead? The answer is C, so, watch out for the train tracks. Yield, slow down at the sign.

If you see their red flashing lights, in your driving lane, ahead of you, what do you do? A. go slowly? B. change lanes & then pass the bus, which means you may hit & murder kids? C. Come to a complete stop? D. speed up & pass quickly? The answer is C, stop. Yes, some vehicles pass them & kill students. So, they're trying to put cams, cameras, on the school buses, to help law enforcement, the police officers, catch the potential child executors. Should you stop even if the school bus is on the opposite side of the road? Yes, either side, please stop. What if it is an intersection? Yes, stop even in those cases as well, if you can.

Light at night?

What kind of light should you have on when it's dark out, when you are 300 feet behind another vehicle? A. flashing light beams? B. high beams? C. emergency lights? D. low beams? The answer is D, low beams. It's bright enough, especially at night as the light can have a higher contrast which can be blinding more so at night when the lights are too bright.

No right turn

When you see a white right turn sign with an X or a slash over the right turn, what would that mean? If you were a pirate, X marks the spot for buried treasure. In this case, it means no R turns. No right turns. Don't turn right. It's not allowed. Don't make a right turn. Don't stop.

What do you do when you meet these? What does this sign mean? A. a T intersection? B. railroad crossing? That's what I wrote. Wrong. C. crossroad ahead? D. hospital ahead? The answer is C, a crossroad is ahead. Drive slowly. Watch out for pedestrians. Be careful, alert.

When holding the steering wheel, your left & right hands should be at what clock positions? A. 10 & 11 o'clock position for your left hand & 1 to 2 for the right? B. 9-10, 3-4? C. 8-9, 3-4? D. 9-10, 5-6? The answer is C. Keep your hands balanced on the steering wheel.

Should you drive without your seatbelt?

No, please wear protection, a seat belt. It's generally illegal not to click it. Either you click it or ticket. Click the seatbelt. Better safe than sorry. Why not a helmet? Do what you can to be careful.

When facing high beams

Where do you look? Towards the left side? No, towards the right side, not towards the center, the middle of the road, or towards the drivers facing you. Focus on the right side. Stay focus on what is ahead. Don't get distracted. Stay on your course. Stay on your path. By the way, how do you reverse parking? First, slow down. Practice a lot. Check blinds. Check your blind spots. One meter gaps between you and other cars. Anti-clockwise wheel turn.
