The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said on Saturday that the use of FASTag payments brought to encourage digital payments on toll plazas in the country has reached 23.2 per cent across the country. The total number of transactions has exceeded 63 lakh, NHAI said in a tweet on Saturday.

It also said toll collection through FASTag has reached 102 crore per day. FASTags are being installed on all toll plazas for free until March 1, NHAI said. The Ministry of Road Transport has implemented a FASTag system on toll plazas. Now if you go through toll plasmas without FASTag, you have to pay double tolls.

FASTag is an electronic toll payment system that has been implemented on national highways across the country since February 16. In fact, a tag is placed on the trains, with a code and a sensor scanned when the carriages pass through the toll plaza, and the trains go on without delay.

In the five days since it was implemented, there has been a positive response from passengers on national highways towards 100 per cent cashless tolling arrangements, NHAI said. The government body said it also added a new facility called stat to check balance in FASTag. It can be downloaded from Google Play or Apple's App Store. Vehicle owners can FASTag state check through colour code.
