Thought Crimes I

The first question every person should ask themselves every day of their life is this: Are my beliefs my own, constructed from an objective view of reality, or are they a result of the ulterior motives of diverse and separate groups who, through shared goals, have shaped the perceptions of many?

Are we truly free in the sense that we can make our own decisions with an ultimate understanding of the true motivations which cause them and the consequences that will result from them? I do not believe that sort of real freedom will ever exist, but I will forever fight for that ideal.

The beings referred to as God and Satan, or the idea of them if you are atheist, have a great deal to do with this. God represents the majority of humanity, willing to fight for something they feel is equitable for all... while Satan, meaning opposer, is a constant reminder of humanity's darker impulses, reflected in those who selfishly elevate themselves and in those for whom sanity has relinquished control.
