The connection between Web Browsers and HR

Based on a recommendation of a friend I bought Originals and started listening to it on my way to work.

And in the first pages(minutes) of the book Adam Grant talks about a study of Mike Housman. This may be something most of the people have already heard of, but for me it was new and astonishing.

It seems there is a correlation between what web browser someone uses and his job performance. People who use Chrome and Firefox were better performers on the job and also, on average, they stay around in those jobs 15 percent longer than people who use Internet Explorer and Safari.

The point is that your web browser preference signals something about how you tend to live your life. If you use Firefox or Chrome, you have to download those browsers, so you challenge the status quo.Whereas Internet Explorer and Safari come pre-installed on your computer, they're the default.

If you're the kind of person who just accepts the default, you tend not to take as many orginal steps as other people, the study says. If you are the kind of person who wonders if there is a better browser, then maybe you are the kind of person who's willing to reject other defaults in your life too.
