In 1934, there was a young woman named Mary Wither who lived in New York, United States. Her boyfriend was a young man named Ernest Jackson. The couple loves each other.

However, there was an old man who was obsessed with Mary. The old man bothered him all the time and asked Mary to marry him. Mary was disgusted by the old man's behavior and didn't want anything to do with him, but no matter what he did, he couldn't make the old man stop. The old man continued to follow him and followed him wherever he went.

Mary became frightened. To get rid of the old man, Mary also married her boyfriend, Ernest.

After the wedding, while the couple was on their way home, the old man suddenly jumped onto the road in front of their car. Ernest had to hit the brakes to avoid his car crashing into the old man. The old man came to the window and looked at Mary.

"I'm going to die soon," he growled, "but I'll be back for you. And when I come back you'll be with me..."

Ernest stepped on the gas pedal and drove at high speed, but Mary was frightened and couldn't stop thinking about what the old man had said.

A few days later, the old man was found dead in his home. His body was buried in a public cemetery. He had no friends or relatives and anyone who knew him was afraid of him, so no one mourned his death.

A year after her death, on a snowy December night, Mary was sitting in her living room, reading a book, when there was a knock at the front door. Her husband and two children were in the kitchen.

"I'll open the door," Mary told them.

Ernest and his children heard the door open, but they did not hear anyone enter. There wasn't any sound, just an eerie silence.

After waiting a few minutes, they went into the living room and found the door wide open. Mary was nowhere to be seen. When they looked outside, they found footprints in the snow.

The three men quickly grabbed their coats and flashlights and went looking for them. They followed two kilometers of footprints, along a snow-covered country road, until they arrived at a local cemetery. Footprints led through the gate and straight to the old man's grave, then Mary's footprints suddenly disappeared.

While his two children waited in the graveyard, Ernest went to ask for help. He returned with seven men from the village. It was the middle of the night and the weather was freezing cold. Together, under the light of flashlights and lanterns, they began to dig their graves.

When they dragged the coffin and opened it, they were horrified to find that it was empty.

Despite a search, the bodies of the old man and Mary were never found. To this day, Mary Wither's disappearance remains an unsolved mystery
