The house Labor Day weekend 1983

Friday was a busy day. I had 6 people coming during the day. My helper friend and my helper arrived at 8AM. I had been buzzing around with lots of jobs to get done by then, and hadn’t finished.

I had moved all the firewood from the office to the living room, as I could do this in my slippers, making it a cleaner job. My helper then brought in a lot of wood for the office.

My helper friend did a few chores then went shopping for me. The carpenter arrived before 9AM and he and my helper went to work in the bathroom.

I was busy researching and ordering grab bars and wallpaper for the bathroom, something I hadn’t gotten done last year. The wallpaper had jumped in price tremendously.

My oldest brother arrived just before lunch, reminding me I had said I’d make lunch for us and had forgotten all about it. I had homemade tomato soup in the freezer and heated that up and made toasted cheese sandwiches to go with it.

While I was doing that, he had gotten the tractor and moved the splitter up to the bulkhead so he could pump up the tires with the compressor that was in the cellar.

After we ate, he took the splitter to the mechanic’s garage so it could be repaired.

When he got back, he cut up a lot of the wood. It was a relatively nice day, sunny, with little wind.

He had brought me an armload of holly and boxwood. It was a welcome gift as the flowers from Valentine’s Day had gone by a couple days back.

Tom and his 2 daughters arrived about 2PM to visit before they headed to riding lessons just down the road. They worked on the puzzle and checked out all the new work. They’d not been to the house since last week due to the short quarantine.

Once Tom dropped them off, he worked on a design for his sap evaporator and raided my husband’s computer parts for power supplies. Tom also fixes computers and I was glad to see some my husband’s pile of parts reduced.

In the evening I contacted my husband’s nephews to see if they were interested in some of his fishing gear. We arranged with the youngest to come on Sunday and the older one sometime in the next couple weeks.

Saturday the carpenter will be here and it’s to rain all day. Mud city, here we come! We may go to pick up some orders I had come in. He plans to work in the bathroom.
