On Tuesday night I decided to get all the garlands out and ready in case I could put them up on Wednesday morning. The top of the tree has the very old ones, the elves of paper made by my grandma, the old silver bell chain, the antique glass bead one, and a short blue and silver glass ball one.
I ended up unwrapping most of the ornaments because I could not find the blue and silver garland. Never did find it…
Under the old ones, I put the antique blue bead one.
Next are the gold glass beads and then the fancy twisted cord and bead one. Under them are the wooden “cranberries” ones.
My siblings and I made this garland nearly 60 years ago. I had to do several repairs to it this year before I could put it up.
It’s the longest of the garlands, going around twice. I must be very careful it doesn’t get near bubble lights.
This bedraggled red velvet garland with silver bells was a great favorite of a pet guinea pig decades back. That’s why it’s so bedraggled.
So I got the garlands onto the tree and that’s as far as I got.
I managed to get everything done, the prep done for the pumpkin pudding, and have about 15 minutes to sit down before my general helper arrived to take me shopping.
We found everything we needed AND selected the 25 items for my sister’s advent box all within an hour. So we gassed up the car, went to the bank and still had time.
So we zoomed up on Horse Mountain to the Christmas tree farm and I got 2 boxes for the front porch. Tom will get a load of pumpkins and gourds for the chickens on the weekend.
I did some packing for the trip to CT on Thursday but then I had to rest. The top bag has leftover containers. One must have those!
I rested for a couple hours and the contractor came to work in the root cellar. I ate late and finally got to bed late.
Thursday my intern and I leave at 7AM to head south. I must have the pumpkin pudding cooked by then… My son is keeping the fires going and feeding cats, etc. It’s going to be a long exhausting day…
