Honeycomb uses concensus nodes to maintain full decentralization, and has been first to market with several HIVE Layer 2 Features, including:
Hive will be transitioning to HF28, intended to include "lite accounts" that run on Hive's new smart contract system. We will support lite account functionality within Honeycomb, ensuring new users have acces to low friction digital IDs that facilitate easy onboarding.
@disregardfiat currently runs a Hive Witness (#41) with full HAF API to support Honeycomb API calls, and a full backup API to support continuous operation. He maintains the node, keeping it up to date with the latest patches and releases, while responding to any unforseen crashes as quickly as possible. Additionally, he has made contributions to the HAF API codebase.
The SPK Network fork of Honeycomb offers decentralized and incentivized network infrastructure that utilizes BROCA resource credits to secure file storage, while rewarding service providers with SPK Governance.
It's a radical reimagining of cloud storage, and marks the start of new pricing modalities for infrastructure markets.
This fork of the software has povided an opportunity to develop a wholly different governance structure that includes:
SPK Network is fully in testnet. An all-in community day is scheduled for September 24th, 2024, to welcome Hivians. The SPK Network is here in a real and meaningful way. Work done to bring this complex multi-party system online has been arduous, but we feel that the tokenomics and proving systems are up to task and ready to be stress-tested.
We will continue our development and testing of the SPK Network Honeycomb fork. Features developed in this fork will be rolled into the Honeycomb unified codebase once stable.
The utility and functionality of Honeycomb continue to evolve, and we are dedicated to pioneering interfaces that prioritize the user experience front-and-center. As we continue to improve and optimize based on industry best practices, we are committed to releasing our software for others to remix in their own way.
All interfaces we build are open source using modern Bootstrap 5, Vue 3 and WebXR. To support SPK Testnet features, several new User Interface components are being built and tested that provide modularity and scalability for use on other front ends.
The entire dlux.io website has been rebuilt from the ground up within a mobile-first framework, and work is ongoing to bring feature parity across all platforms, including mobile, desktop, and headset.
DLUX Honeycomb QR Onboarding is currently in development. It supports claiming account creation tokens (ACTs) and using them to create accounts for new users. Soon new users will be able to scan a Hivian's QR code to enter an onboarding portal funded from the originating account ACTs or liquid HIVE/HBD balance.
We moved our documentation to a new mobile friendly front-end with sophisticated search indexing, driven by simple markdown files any Github user can contribute to. We will continue documenting functionality added to Honeycomb, including how other communities can take advantage of the interfaces we have built.
We will continue to mimic the @hbdstabilizer function and autonomously sell our DAO HBD for Hive. Additionally, we have been testing a more advanced system with deeper functionality. It is still under development, and we will have more to share about this soon.
The user response has been fantastic, with Honeycomb now powering three distinctly different ecosystems:
Work has been done over the last year to achieve the following milestones:
Our infrastructure costs are generally negligible and we strive to keep them as low as possible through decentralization. We are proposing a rate for our time to innovate and share solutions as needed by the community.

Twenty years of building websites has kept @markegiles sharp to trends and best practices, and he's been working on Hive related software and proof of concepts for 7 years. A fascination with AR/VR pushed him to pursue new web interfaces using WebXR, now he designs and maintains the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) at dlux. He also works in the film industry as a cinematographer, and at WorldAI Day 2019 he helped onboard over 100 users to Hive, live at an event, emphasizing the importance of building community.
