Journey Of Unlearning

Life is as much about unlearning, as it is about learning!

From a young age, we are taught how to listen to others, how to be obedient and how to conform. Conform to the society that we are born into. We strive to follow the path that our paths lay out for us. To be educated by the system and to choose a career and stick with it. To stick with it! That is something you hear a lot, just stick with it, to just settle for what has been handed to you. It's not advisable to question or to refuse what is handed to us.

We grow up, being told what we are destined for, by how we perform academically. Being told, that we have to know by a certain age, where our future lies, a age where we are still trying to discover who we are, to understand the many changes that are happening within us. So of course we happily listened to what others had to say, even feel relieved that they chose for us!

Taking the pressure off, of us. And oh how we felt that pressure. The pressure to succeed, to prove ourselves and our place in society. The fear of failure was real. Yet we have to fail in order to learn, our greatest lessons come from our failures, so really we should embrace those failures and acknowledge them for what they are. An opportunity to learn.

But no we are told that failure is not acceptable. That we have to keep pushing ourselves.

We push and we push, so that we achieve what is expected of us,but in the end, it pushes us further away from our own desires. So many of us, have been educated in a way that disconnects us from our own inner knowing.

So our journey of unlearning is a journey back to self. To self realization and self awareness. To reconnect with our intuitive self. To remember what it is like, to trust yourself and follow your own path.

To let go of the many insecurities, that come from trying to fit in! To find your place, in a world where there is little room for individuality. We are taught to blend in, so that our voices are not heard. So that we stand in line and do not ask for more.

More time, more understanding, more acceptance!

We find ourselves repeating patterns, patterns that were created, as we tried to find our way in an unforgiving world. A parallel world,to the one that we were born into, but one we can step out of once we remember who we are. Once we remember what we are capable of.

Once we begin to unlearn all the things that were forced upon us. Once we unschool ourselves from this world of men,of men and women who wish to dominate and manipulate us. Where we are free to be who we are meant to be, to seek out our own path and express ourselves freely.

When we get to grow up in an environment that values freedom, then we get to discover our true potential. And it is never too late to break away, because what we are really looking to connect with is already inside of us, we just need to time and space/freedom to do so.

My journey of unlearning, took me to the roads, to travel. To many different countries, as I opened my eyes up to the many wonders of the world. But ultimately a journey that took me back to me, to rediscover the strength I held within.
