Working on fine motor skills with Playdough and Wooden colored balls

Hey guys,

This activity we've made with playdough and wooden hole balls is really easy to set up and promotes fine motor skills development and color sorting abilities.

I made this with my son when he was 1year and 10 months, but you can do it earlier or later this age. He had so much fun with these!

You need:

  • playdough
  • barbecue sticks/ skewers (or straws which are safer)
  • wooden hole balls. (you can replace them with pasta like penne or rigatoni)

The activity is really simple, as you already understand what the kids have to do. They have to thread the balls on each stick/straw, matching colors.

We have our wooden balls from another game. You can use any colors for sorting or you can do this activity without colors.

If you use for example, barbeque sticks and simple pasta, there wont be any colors. And in this activity will be only for Hand- Eye coordination, Threading, Creativity, Concetration and ofc Fine Motor Skills.

And one more thing. If you use barbeque sticks, make sure to insert their sharp tip into the playdough and no other way. This reduces the chances of your baby to get hurt. Plus, is best to supervise this activity in case they come with the idea of playing with these sticks.

After he finished the task, he wanted to keep playing so I gave him some buttons and this was the real fun! Simple play with no rules is always more fun!

Have fun in your daily learning activities!

Have a good day!
