Contextual Education, Fun Learning Concept During Pandemic

Based on the KBBI, contextual means that it relates to context. Context itself means a situation that has something to do with an event. Well, the point is Contextual Education is a related learning concept between the material being taught with real world situations.

Through a learning concept like this it is expected, our children understand new information more easily because it encourages students to link the knowledge they have with application in everyday life.

As a simple example, we want to introduce our children to colors. We can invite the children to help pick up clothes that are dried in the sun, then fold them together. Another example is folding clothes.

There are many colors of clothes that we fold with our children. There are black and white. We can ask our children, do you remember when you wear this black t-shirt during the day, why does it feel hotter than other colors?

Our child might say yes, but he doesn't know why. Now we as parents explain that black objects, such as clothes, it absorbs all wavelengths in white light and does not reflect it. If we teach children contextually, it will be easier for children to understand.

  • HOW TO APPLY CONTEXTUAL LEARNING

The first is to establish a relationship or connection.

The key to contextual education is linkages and bonds between children and parents. For example, when the child peels the red bottom, and he will cry. Here we can explain its relation to science.

The second, ask an opinion or a question

The concept of contextual learning does not have to be structured, we have to prepare and so on. But, it can also appear conditional when the child suddenly asks a question. For example, he asked why the mosquito was created by God.

In fact, he did not bring any profit. Mosquitoes bring more harm, because they make people sick. From here we can teach children about the philosophy of life. You know what, the big companies that produce insect repellent.

Third, cooperation
Because he is studying at home, of course the cooperation must be with you. Parents must act as co-workers who help solve problems. So, we are working together here not just giving orders to children. Well, that's contextual education that can help children achieve their learning goals. Have a good practice and hope it helps.
