Making A Birthday Card For Tatay

Learning Important Dates

Learning the calendar and taking note of important dates and holidays are important to keep the kids connected to what has happened in the past and their relevance. Christmas, New Year, Independence Day, National Day, etc. Of course, birthdays are never forgotten, too.

Since we live far from our family in PH, we normally record video greetings for them, engage in hours of telephone conversations, and yes, even make birthday cards for them.

Making A Card For Tatay's Birthday

Today is my dad's birthday. Yesterday, the kids took the time to create birthday cards for him. Likewise, I took this as an opportunity to give more fine motor skills practice for the Little Man and encourage creativity too.

First, the message was plain and simple - "Happy Birthday Tatay". I initially wrote the message on the board for him to copy, but he refused because he "wanted it to be perfect" so I wrote it in pencil for him to trace. He later decided to use rainbow colors for the text.

There were also balloons and hearts which he colored quite nicely.

As we finalized the message, he added,

"I love you Tatay"

But wait, there's more!

He needs to write his name so that "Tatay will know it's from me". ❤️

I still cannot get him to write his full name. "Only Ryle"

While he knows how to write his full name, he mostly doesn't want to. "It's long," he said. His first and second names are four letters each. I don't know if that's really long. But let's not fret. "Ryle only" it is.

More Decorations. Using the scissors.

It's time to decorate the cover page of the card. He glued colored triangles and made a banner.

We also printed out a cake which he cut and glued at the front of the card.

I would say he has done a pretty good job handling the scissors.

Nice work, don't you think?

After cutting, he carefully glued the cake on the card.

The card is finished! Little Miss also made her own card for Tatay.

How do we send the card?

Of course, we cannot send the physical card to Tatay yet. Thanks to technology, we do not need to wait until the actual card reaches Tatay. We only had to do a video call and the kids each presented their respective cards and make their birthday greetings.

We're glad to have made Tatay happy on his birthday just by making these simple birthday cards.
