EVERYTHING IS OPTIONAL: You don't have to have ANYTHING at all in any of these sections.
However adding information there probably makes you more interesting and more approachable to others.

  • A - NAME: Name is different than your user name. You can use spaces you can put your full name you can put whatever you want. However the common practice is putting your actual name or at least not changing it often because that can confuse people or make them not trust.

  • B - ABOUT: Is whatever you'd like to say about yourself. It's like a short introduction of yourself to other users.

  • C - LOCATION: Some people put countries, some put states, some people don't fill this out.

  • D - WEBSITE: This link is active and clickable when a visitor is on your page. Maybe it's a way for visitors to learn more about you or a professional business link... or a link to another social media. Or even your PeakD.com link so that people seeing your site from another interface can see it on PeakD.com.

  • E - PICTURE: This is your round circular profile picture. Note that you don't have to upload a round picture the interfaces like PeakD.com will simply show it as round. You can either UPLOAD an image and we'll find a place to store it or you can give a link to where that image is stored somewhere on the internet. (somewhere that is consistently working)

  • F - BACKGROUND: This is the long cover image at the top of your profile. Same thing as the profile picture you can upload it and we'll store it or you can just supply a link.

Again all these are optional settings. The only think you really choose that is mandatory is your user name... and you can't change that.

ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE

These settings are just commonly accepted fields stored in the metadata of your profile. They were just common fields that some of the first interfaces tended to ask for. There have been and could be many more fields of information stored in a user's profile metadata.
In fact we could store almost anything we want there... but the question is what do the majority of users actually want to store and display for other users to see?
