Bridging the gaps – Equal opportunities and safe space for all children

I would like to bring attention to the readers that Children whose parents work on daily wages, at construction sites in India are some of the most ignored and deprived children in Indian Society. They are deprived of all the possible things you would like to think about.

Almost all countries including India signatories to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). India has a National Child Protection Policy which includes the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012, JJ Act 2015; Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956; Human Trafficking (Section 370 & 370A IPC), The Information Technology Act 2000, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act 2016, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and Pre Natal-Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994.

Because of socioeconomic factors, most of the time families are not able to provide basic needs like nutrition, health, education, and a safe environment. And life is always at risk all the time as they are always on the construction sites. They do not go to school as their parents keep moving from one place to another for work, and children's these children overall development is at risk.

While I was pursuing a course from one of the Law university on Child Rights, the professor shared that poor implementation is the big reason that children are deprived of their rights. I was thinking about why policymakers do not think about its implementation while reviewing or creating policies. It is not about creating a document but how to implement it effectively so that each beneficiary can benefit from it.

Most of the time when we talk about any problem, we want to acknowledge how large the population we have in India and that is one of the reasons, I completely disagree as we have not grown within a day, we are aware of our population, and Policies are not meant for selected groups.

Some positive facts there are some organisations doing really great work with engaging children, and there are organisations that are working on grassroots, but the question is do all children have a safe environment for their development?

Especially when it is about children it is each elder's responsibility to create a safe and healthy environment for children and effective policies can play a very big role in it.
