Can I have some attitude, Please!!!

I had been following the journey of the MasterChef contestants. (It is one of the ways I waste my time and to be honest I like it. That show presents me with an opportunity to learn new skills and makes me open my swiggy app and order something from some unknown restaurant.) I was watching the semifinals of the show when one of the celebrity judges said something that hit me with a very different note.

She said “Chef Coat pahnene se Chef wala attitude nahi aata, Chef ke attitude wale ko hi coat milta hain.” (Eng Trans. - You won't develop a chef’s attitude just by wearing the chef’s coat, You need to develop the attitude to earn the chef’s coat). This is what she said to a semi-finalist, who was struggling with his task.

Even though I heard this about 3 weeks back. Not a single day goes by when I don't repeat it to myself. What a powerful mantra. And today I realised that this is so much in line with what Baba Ranchordas said in the 3Idiot movie. “Kaabil bano, Kamiyaabi jhak maarke pheeche aayegi.” (Be Capable, and excellence will follow).

I know a lot of people who say, I will learn resource management once I get promoted. I will start my business once I collect enough capital. I will write a book once I improve my writing skill. I am one of them. My personal to-do list is so long that Excel ran out of rows to accommodate them. Jokes aside, I wanted to have a restaurant on the Andaman Islands, This is a stupid dream of mine that is there in the back of my mind. But so far the only thing I manage to do towards making that dream a reality is decided to have no floor. The restaurant will be directly on the beach no floor work just straight-up sand. Whenever I think of the restaurant, The first thing that comes to my mind is I don't have enough, let me earn enough money to start the business and then I will revisit the plans. How can I be an owner of a restaurant, when my mindset and attitude is still of a mediocre office bug.

And we all know that we are guilty of the same. We take up tasks for which we are not mentally prepared and hope that the task will force us to change and adapt. I am not sure if the strategy works for anyone. If you are reading this and hoping to hear a solution, you are wrong. I am also searching for answers here. How can I develop the mindset of a restaurant owner? How can I develop the mindset of an ace programmer? How can I develop the mindset of a successful writer?

I am inuke,
