It’s official!!! We have been the proud parents of our adopted sibling Chihuahuas for 9 whole months. Time seems to be flying by and we can’t imagine our lives without these two.
Minki and Max on the couch with my family
I can only imagine the circumstances that they came from in the slums of Belhar on the Cape Flats, a rough gang and high crime area of Cape Town.
The shelter that had accepted them said they were handed in with nothing and barely managed to get a date of birth on them before the owners left them behind.
They also believed that Minki and Max had been fed from the table in their previous home and not well taken care of. Luckily they were healthy and didn’t seem to have any ailments.
These days Minki and Max spend their days following the sunshine around our house as the days progresses and Autumn is quickly turning to Winter.
They begin the day in my bed tucked in under the covers. As soon as late morning comes around they relocate to the lounge as the sun begins to hit the couch at just the right spot.
Once the sun begins to dip in the afternoon they relocate to the deck at the back of the house and lounge in the late afternoon warmth.
This little ritual reminds me so much of my grandfather who passed away a couple years ago. He loved the sun and would also spend his day moving from chair to chair around the house as the days went on. He followed the sun soaking up the rays basking in the light.
This photo is now 7 years ago when Grandpa was 85 and my daughter was 10
Grandpa’s 90th birthday and a year before a died. He would have loved Minki & Max
And now our two chihuahuas do the very same thing, following the sun all day and chasing the warm rays reminding me of my wonderful grandfather.
It’s amazing how small things can remind you of someone you loved.
