¡Hola hivers!
Hello hivers! Sometimes it's tricky to understand if our pet is in any pain or discomfort. Last week was a little tense and full of hypotheses about what could be happening to my little cup.
Copita has always been a playful dog, despite her 10 years she has not lost her essence. She has a favorite stuffed animal, with which she used to play every afternoon. However, some time ago we noticed that something was not right, when she was going to grab her stuffed animal she would make a pain noise and run to hide, as if something was hurting her. I didn't know what it could be, I carefully checked her stuffed animal and didn't find anything strange, I thought she had just hurt her paw on something on the floor. Those episodes of pain when grabbing her toy were not very frequent, but as the days went by they became constant, even when she was walking. Until we noticed that it hurt when he ate, suspecting that it could be an oral problem. The next day the vet arrived and had to anesthetize her completely to examine her better.
We were nervous, because of the effect of anesthesia in an adult dog, everything has its risks. It was indeed a molar, it was in bad condition, it had to be extracted. We waited until she was completely asleep and the vet proceeded, it was not easy at all, copita was moving a little. Even though I knew that it was not hurting her, I felt that pain as mine. After a few minutes she managed to extract it successfully and taking advantage of the moment she was given a mouth cleaning.
This was the molar that was causing her pain, it was in very bad condition. Although I don't give her sweets, only perrarina, when she lived with my parents she ate everything. That together with her years made her develop cavities in her molar.
Little by little she woke up from the anesthesia, my mom called me and when she heard my voice she only moved her little tail, then as the hours went by she woke up completely, we took her antibiotics and painkillers. Today she is happy running around the apartment.
Remember how I told you that when he grabbed his stuffed animal, he felt pain? That was because of her tooth, of course. But from that day on she is afraid of it, it is incredible how puppies don't forget, she thinks that her favorite stuffed animal was the one that caused her that unbearable pain. Little by little I have been playing with her, sometimes she plays with it, then she remembers and moves away. But I'm sure she will regain her confidence and resume playing. In the meantime, keep hunting for fake tuqueques.
Thanks for reading copita's story, one tip the vet gave me was not to give any treats to our pets, brush their teeth regularly.
Have a happy day, happy doggy greetings from Copi 🧡
