How to survive a lockdown with a hairy best friend

A story of my hairy best friend, Raz, that is adopted from a shelter for dogs 2 years ago and I don't know who is more blessed, she or me!! 😍

I saw her one year at this shelter, Noina Arka, that I visit once a year. Mostly in the winter when I carry blankets, food, and all other stuff that I manage to collect that can help the shelter for animals. I couldn't adopt her earlier because I have had a pit bull terrier that was a little possessive about me so another dog was out of the question πŸ˜…...I was looking here, in that shelter, for almost 3 years.

When my pitt bull terrier - Lee died of a very serious disease, lymph gland cancer, and very hard fights that we had and eventually lost, after 9 months of constant fighting, my heart was broken. I thought I will never have a dog again.

Eventually, when I gathered the strength to collect all her belongings, I decided to take them to Noina Arka, the shelter. There I saw Raz again...and I know that she needs to come home with me.

She was at this shelter for more than 3 years. She came there as a little baby of 7 months that was hit by the car and since then she is there. When I adopted her she had 3 years and 3 months.

Our story started then, from the first car rides, the first stairs, bathing, long walking, running...Everything was new to her because she only knew the cage and the small meadow in the shelter. This lockdown that happened, I don't know what I would do without her...Not only that, at that time I was going through a very hard time in my life and she was with me every step on the way. She was my peace and strength.

All was great till the last 2 months. All of a sudden she couldn't jump in the car anymore, take a run with me, nothing. She was in the pain in the area of the hips and hind legs. I was afraid that her hips are damaged. I went to the vet to take an X-ray of the hips. And I have had something to see. My adopted dog has a bar in the leg and an artificial part of the left hip. I was shocked because no one has told me that in the shelter. Not only that I was shocked, I was furious because I didn't know if I do something wrong and she is in the pain because of me and because I didn't know that.

Immediately I have called the shelter and ask them to give me all documentation about the surgery and the doctor that operated here. I wanted to get in touch with him to see what to do. The shelter was very sorry about this mistake and they helped with everything from that point. We managed to get in touch with the vet and all is good. Implants are ok and she is in pain because she has had two serious operations and it is normal to feel pain sometimes. He said I don't have to spare her, when she wants to run and jump she can. And when she is in the pain I just need to respect that, maybe give her something against the pain and it will pass. Like for people that have had similar operations. I was so relievedπŸ˜….

Now she runs and jumps again. She is not in pain at the moment, but I know that the time of pain will come again 😌... Now we will at least know what the problem is and how to deal with it πŸ’ͺ. Two great years are behind us and I hope many more to come because she is so amazing dog that you can only dream for.
