My Pet Dogs are Durian Lovers

What is Durian

If you live or are from the South East of Asia country, then you know what DURIAN a.k.a. the King of Fruits is. According to Britannica, The Editors of Encyclopaedia. “durian”.

durian, (Durio zibethinus), tree of the hibiscus, or mallow, family (Malvaceae) and its large edible fruit. The durian is cultivated in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and southern Thailand and is seldom exported. Although the durian has a mild sweet flavour, it also has a pungent odour, which has been compared to that of Limburger cheese; for this reason, the fruit is banned from public transportation in some places. The custard-like pulp can be eaten at various stages of ripeness and is used in a variety of sweet and savoury dishes. The seeds may also be eaten if roasted.

This particular fruit is banned across Asia from public places like the shopping mall, hospitals, office buildings, and public transport due to its pungent smell. Getting rid of the smell is not as simple as removing the fruit as the odour lingers. You either love it or hate it.

For most Westerners, durian is an acquired taste and most will feel nauseated by the smell of the fruit. If you are brave enough to try and get past the pungent smell, the flesh of the fruit is rich, creamy, and tastes sweet.

Just to give you an idea of how strong the odour is, in May 2019, smell of durian prompts evacuation at University of Canberra.

Funny video of how animals react to durian!

FROM HATE TO LOVE

I personally love durian and have been eating them since I was a kid. On the other hand, my wife used to hate it. Just the smell, was enough to make her nauseous. Because of that reason I never brought durian home. The picture below is from April 2015 that’s when we were in Bali for holiday and we had to transport 2 durian home.😆

But about 4 years ago, out of the blue she craved for durian, and that’s it! Once she had the taste of the fruit she’s become a die-hard fan of durian.

The picture below was taken in January 2019 whilst in Penang Island (Malaysia) for holiday and of course, durian was number 1 on her culinary travel itinerary.

Durian is a seasonal fruit but they can be frozen thus you can store them in your freezer and have them at any time of the year.

My pet dogs, Beef (Rednose Pitbull) and Igloo (Rottweiler) are also durian lovers. They love fruits, especially the ones that are sweet. They love mango, banana, papaya, melon, water melon, and DURIAN is their absolute favourite! You should see them come running and follow us (or the durian) when we bring home durian fruit. Here's a short video when my wife gave them durian treats. They have expensive taste!
