I want to start by telling you that Mimi, our kitten, arrived home as a baby of a few months, maybe one or two. My daughter found him in an avenue, where he had been placed with the intention of being run over by a vehicle. She brought him home, where our only pet was a ten year old adult poddle dog.
Quiero comenzar por contarles que Mimi nuestro gatito, llegó a la casa siendo un bebé de pocos meses, quizás uno o dos. Mi hija lo encontró en en una avenida , en la cual lo habían puesto con la intención de que un vehículo lo atropellara. Lo trajo a la casa, donde nuestra única mascota era un perrita poddle ya adulta con diez años de vida .
My daughter knew that even though I love cats, I had not wanted to have one because I thought it would be locked up, with no possibility of going out, because we live in an apartment on a 12th floor. So in principle we tried to find a family who wanted it for adoption.
Mi hija sabia que a pesar de que me encantan los gatos, no había querido tener uno porque pensaba que iba a estar encerrado, sin posibilidades de salir, porque vivimos en un apartamento en un piso 12. Así que en principio tratamos de buscar una familia que lo quisiera en adopción.
It wasn't possible and during that time, we grew fond of him, until I decided that he would be part of the family and that he would adapt to our life. And so he did.
No fue posible y en ese tiempo, nos fuimos encariñando con el, hasta que decidí que formara parte de la familia y que el se adaptaría a nuestro vida. Y así fue.
Mimi has been with us for five years, I gave him that name because he meowed a lot when he was little and it was understandable because he had been taken away from his mother. My daughters didn't like this name because they said it was a female name. But that's how he stayed because he liked it.
Hace cinco años que Mimí está con nosotros, yo le puse ese nombre porque maullaba mucho de pequeño y era comprensible porque lo habían alejado de su mamá. A mis hijas no le gusto mucho este nombre porque decían que era de hembra. Pero así se quedó porque a el le gusto.
We love him very much to the point that he is very spoiled and now all the attention is for him, because my dog died a year ago.
Lo amamos muchísimo hasta tal punto que está muy consentido y ahora todas las atenciones son para el, porque mi perrita murió hace un año.
We not only show our love for Mimi with gestures of affection, caressing him, playing with him, holding him as if he were a baby, talking to him with sweetness, although I know that he, like most cats, loves to do it, but also taking care of him and giving him the conditions for him to feel safe, calm and healthy, that's why we are in the family very aware of the following.
El amor hacia Mimi no solo se lo demostramos con gestos de cariño, acariciándolo, jugando con él, cargándolo como si fuera un bebé, hablándole con dulzura, aunque se que a él como a la mayoría de los gatos, le encanta que lo hagan, sino que también cuidándolo y dándole las condiciones para que el se sienta seguro, tranquilo y saludable, por eso estamos en la familia muy pendientes de lo siguiente.
His food
He usually eats cat food and I must say that he likes it the most, but we also supplement it with chicken, meat or fish depending on what we are eating. We don't overfeed him because even though he is a very active kitty, it can cause health problems. We keep his water dish clean.
Su comida
Generalmente el come alimento para gatos y debo decir que es el que más le gusta, pero también lo suplementamos con pollo, carne o pescado dependiendo de lo que nosotras estemos comiendo. No le damos un exceso de comida porque aunque el es un gatito bastante activo, eso le puede generar problemas de salud. Mantenemos su plato con agua limpia.
Vaccinations, deworming and sterilization.
Even though at first I did not agree with neutering him because it seemed to me that it was taking away part of his body, of his essence as a cat, and that he was going to be a fat cat, my daughter, who is a veterinary medicine student, convinced me. Her argument was that he had no possibility of being in contact with female cats, and that this could cause him more anguish because of his hormonal levels, so I took that decision and I think it was the best for him. He stopped peeing in every corner of the house marking his territory and he is still a stylish and very active kitten.
Vacunas, desparasitación y esterilización.
Aun cuando en un principio yo no estaba de acuerdo con esterilizarlo porque me parecía que era quitarle parte de su cuerpo, de su esencia como gato, y que iba a ser un gato gordo, mi hija que es estudiante de medicina veterinaria me convenció. Su argumento fue que el no tenia posibilidad de estar en contacto con gatas, y que eso podía ocasionarle mas bien angustia por sus niveles hormonales, así que tome esa decisión y creo que fue lo mejor para el. Dejó de orinarse por todos los rincones de la casa marcando territorio y sigue siendo un gatito estilizado y muy activo.

Dejarle espacio para correr y brincar
En el apartamento tiene la posibilidad de brincar por encima de las bibliotecas y estantes de la cocina, sobre la nevera, se monta en las ventanas, sobre las camas, se esconde dentro de los closets y se monta en el balcón para asomarse y que le pegue la brisa y el sol.
Games
Besides having a box to tear her apart to which we open some holes for her to stick her paws in, which of course we have to change every so often, Mimi is always clamoring for attention so we play with him. My youngest daughter is her main playmate, she chases her, hunts her, jumps on her and bites her....of course all in play.

Además de tener una caja para destrozarla a la cual le abrimos unos huecos para que meta las patas, que por supuesto debemos cambiar cada cierto tiempo, Mimí siempre está reclamando atención para que juguemos con él. Mi hija más pequeña es su principal compañera de juegos, la persigue, la caza, le brinca encima y la muerde....por supuesto todo en juego.
Sometimes I think that if we lived in a house with a yard and trees where he could ride, hunt animals, run and sunbathe, he would be happier. Hopefully in the future he will be able to do that. But the love that we give him continuously I think is the most important thing for him and he shows it to us with his affection and always being close, looking for our company.
A veces pienso que si viviéramos en una casa con un patio y arboles donde el pudiera montarse, cazar animalitos, correr y llevar sol , fuera más feliz. Ojalá en un futuro pueda hacerlo. Pero el amor que le damos continuamente creo que es lo más importante para el y nos lo demuestra con su cariño y el estar siempre cerca, buscando nuestra compañia.
