My Sulcata and Redfoot tortoise October 2022 update

Hi hi.. How are you? It has been a while since I last updated about my two cute little tortoises. One not so little anymore. It's as big as my palm. I have a Sulcata and Redfoot tortoises. The redfoot has been with me for half a year and the Sulcata has been with me for more than a year.

Sulcata

Ready for food. With its huge eyes. It has eyes of a human. I found out recently that my Sulcata is a male Sulcata. It has outgrown the redfoot a lot. Do read on to find out more. Initially, it was pretty tough to learn how to take care of a Sulcata tortoise. Got the hang of it already. If you want to have a Sulcata tortoise, you'll definitely need to prepare the enclosure first. Have a UVA light bulb would be good enough. UVB (white light) is not needed unless your planning to have it indoors all the time. I get them to go outdoors during the day and when it is sleeping time, then only they would be placed into their enclosure. They are quite clean. They know it's nap time. Usually, they have their poop routine early in the morning.

Redfoot has grown a lot too

Not as much as Sulcata. Sulcatas grow a lot faster as they are the third largest tortoise in the world. Red foot can grow up to 30 cm but the Sulcata can grow to more than a metre long with a weight of more than 80 kgs.

I have some blue pea plants growing in my garden

Occasionally, blue pea flowers are given to them to eat. Sulcatas love vegetables. Red foot basically eats anything but I definitely am not giving it meat. I want it to be an animal lover too.

Red foot eating its meal. Its = not sure of the gender yet

Initially, the Sulcata would find it slightly intimidating when the redfoot just arrived. So I had to take a transparent plastic barrier to separate them and occasionally let them play with eat other. Now, they are great pals. They are like long time great friends sleeping together. Eating together.

May 2022

Both of them in May. They were of the same size. I guess, a bit of competition and the Sulcata decided he had to eat a lot more to grow in the fear of not being able to get enough food.

They have huge poops. I have this special spoon to scoop out their poop. If those poops are not cleaned in time, then the Sulcata plays with it. Then it's cleaning time. Scraping off the poop.

Hope that you enjoy reading this post.

Have a great day.
