I said to myself, I'm going to look for it in the yard, but my surprise was that it was very close to the place, and on its back. In the following picture you can see it on the left.
Me dije a mí mismo, lo voy a buscar por el patio, pero mi sorpresa fue que estaba muy cercano en el sitio, y de espaldas. En la siguiente fotografía se aprecia a la izquierda.
My first impression was that it had died because it was not moving at all, I grabbed it and it moved. The newborn tortoise still had the yolk sac, which provides nutrients for the first few days, so eating was not a necessity at that time. Since it had not yet absorbed the yolk sac, I calculated that it was 1 or 2 days old.
Mi primera impresión es que había fallecido porque no se movía en lo absoluto, lo agarré y se movió. El morrocoy recién nacido aún tenía el saco vitelino, el cual le aporta nutrientes los primeros días, por lo que en ese momento comer no era una necesidad. Como aún no había absorbido el saco vitelino, calculé que tenía 1 o 2 días de nacido.
I turned it over and it had remnants of the eggshell stuck to the carapace.

Next, I placed the tortoise in a planter, together with another small tortoise that I found walking in the same front yard. From head to tail, the carapace length of the newborn tortoise was 2.56 centimeters.
Seguidamente, coloqué el morrocoy en una jardinera, en compañía de otro morrocoy pequeño que encontré caminando en el mismo patio delantero. En sentido de la cabeza hacia la cola, la longitud del caparazón del morrocoy recién nacido fue de 2,56 centímetros.
In the planter I received another surprise, I found two more tortoise eggs, one buried and one not.
En la jardinera recibí otra sorpresa, encontré otros dos huevos de morrocoy, uno enterrado y otro no.
Nine days after finding the newborn tortoise, I checked it and not only had it already absorbed the yolk sac, but the opening of the plastron, where the sac was located, had already closed.
