Good morning to all. A few days ago I told you that I have a very old dog that I rescued a few years ago from the street, and due to her old age she already has certain ailments, such as double incontinence, loss of appetite, difficulty chewing her food, and motor difficulties. In addition to this, since she spent the night on the streets, she contracted the disease "Ehrlichiosis" due to the presence of many external parasites in her body, such as fleas and ticks.

When I adopted her, I started a treatment for that disease, prescribed by a veterinarian who came to my house to check the Poodle that he had also adopted years before, they both had the same disease and at that time he assigned the same medications. Painfully, my poodle did not survive, Snowflake died a few months after starting treatment, and Lucrecia, thanks to God and her physical condition that she was not so old, responded well to it.

From that moment I began to give him his vitamins, and a good diet, apart from bathing with products to avoid the presence of ticks, but because he carried the "Ehrlichia canis" bacteria in his blood, the disease reappeared every once in a while. time and it was necessary to resume the treatment, which consisted of two daily doses of Doxycycline, gastric protector, vitamins, and chicken feet in his daily diet to raise his defenses.

At the same time, neither with treatment nor with good quality products for her hygiene, could the proliferation of ticks be prevented, not only on her body but also in the environment. It seemed that they were coming to her for the simple fact of having this disease, until one of the protectionists in the area recommended me to use a product that was just becoming known and that was very effective, Bravecto. This pill is a single dose according to the weight of each pet and is administered every 3 months.

The effect of this medicine was impressive, after a few hours she no longer had a single tick on her body and they completely disappeared from the environment. To this day, I use the Bravecto on both pets and they and the area remain clean of these nasty insects. The problem is that even so, old age has caused the recurrence of the symptoms of the disease after 2 years that he had not presented them again, and we had to apply the same treatment as an emergency, but his improvement is very slow.

Despite the fact that her appetite has returned a bit, she still has some difficulty eating due to the weakness of her extremities, at this moment she is eating lying down. Almost all of her foods are very soft so that they do not mistreat her teeth, which are already quite worn by the years. The incontinence is still present, and she has difficulty getting up, lying down, and walking since her lower extremities are not supported and her legs bend when she walks. Sometimes she comes walking and all four of her legs split open and her face has been hit, but it's hard to watch her 24 hours a day so she doesn't get up if her spirit continues to have the same spark and active strength as always. She wants to go out into the garden, scratch the ground, dig little holes to lie down in, bark, run, but she can't do it like before and she looks at me with little eyes of frustration that break my soul.

For now I set up an empty room for him, so that he does not have exposure to the outside of the house or the flies harm him. When our pets reach this age and their physical condition is exposed to other ills in their body, it is more complicated and painful to help them, but we always have to be willing to give them the best to improve their quality of life as much as possible until they decide leave our side.

Ehrlichiosis is a deadly disease if it is not treated in time and our pets are provided with the appropriate treatments to avoid the presence of ticks on their bodies. A single infected tick is enough for our puppies to get sick and die from this disease, and sometimes the hygienic products that are on sale do not meet the conditions to prevent the arrival of these external parasites.
