I think all or most of us have seen dogs in the street of various sizes and colors living on the street, these animals suffer any number of difficulties in the street, hunger, thirst, cold, abuse, rain, disease in short so many things that can happen to these animals, some of them run with the luck that some animal or protectionist take them food while they can afford it or through donations, yesterday was celebrated the International Day of the Stray Dog.

Now, what is the purpose of this day, well it is, to raise awareness about the large number of dogs that are on the streets looking for food, those who are abandoned and suffer from mistreatment. On the subject of abandonment it is terrible to see how some people open the doors of their vehicles, put their dogs down and then simply leave, these animals look scared and very sad, they begin to walk the streets desperately looking for shelter and the people who once gave them their affection and unconditional love.

Likewise, I have seen how they are left tied up in places and then they leave, these dogs get scared, start barking and howling, they want to get loose to go after their humans. A few months ago I was informed that some people leave their dogs tied up in places near curves so that some vehicle will run over them, this is terrible and leaves a lot to think about these people.

The creation of this date was the idea of a young Chilean in 2008, he chose this date because in the month of July in Chile is very cold and because of this dogs in street conditions suffer a lot by the temperature, at the same time proposed the adoption of dogs without a home, to minimize their suffering and the amount of these on the streets.

Now, what can we humble mortals do to celebrate this day and prevent that more animals live on the streets suffering so much, one way is to adopt, give a second chance to an animal that is on the street or in shelter sure you will not regret it and you will end up totally in love with this furry, you can also feed a puppy that is on the street and bring him water, Maybe you always see one on your way to work or in a square, these animals spend hours and sometimes days without food or water, you can also take responsible care of your furry, love him for life, take care of him until his departure, since many of the dogs that end up on the streets, are animals abandoned by their families, you also need to create campaigns to sterilize in order to avoid uncontrolled reproduction.

Finally, love, education and responsibility are the key to avoid that more dogs end up in the streets and I am sure that between all of us we can make the difference so that someday there are no more dogs without a home where they receive warmth, food and love.
