Estamos en el mes del amor y la amistad… No, no es cierto, pero para mí es como si lo fuera porque me encanta el Halloween. Soy muy fanático de las cosas de terror ya sea en literatura, cine y artes plásticas, y me gusta hablar mucho de ello, por lo que cuando vi la iniciativa de la comunidad Zona de Escalofríos, me incentivé en hablar de este tema. No soy muy fan de los zombis; soy más de vampiros, pero es inevitable imaginar que pasaría si estuviéramos rodeados de muertos vivientes.

La primera representación de un zombi que llega a mi mente, es un ser todo demacrado con los ojos vidriosos y sin vida, con la piel llagosa, pálida, reseca y proliferante de pus. Con dientes podridos y la boca llena de pústulas repulsivas. Esa es la imagen que siempre nos venden los medios de ficción, pero yo creo que un zombi puede ser diferente, puede ser una criatura cubierta de hierbas del campo o un monstruo insignificante lleno de brea. Lo de no tener mente propia si se lo dejo, ya que son muertos vivientes sin voluntad propia. Fácilmente pueden quedar bajo un hechizo o ser controlados por seres superiores. Es así como yo me los imagino un poco fuera de la ficción cotidiana.
Horrible (risas). Me impactaría mucho. Me haría varias preguntas y la primera sería: ¿Cómo es esto posible? Luego iría a la siguiente incógnita: ¿Existirá alguna razón lógica? Y la tercera, dependiendo de la situación: ¿Cómo puedo matarlo?
Estoy seguro que se me generarían más preguntas, pero estas son las que básicamente se instalarían en mi mente. No negaré que estaría muy asustado; ¿quién no se espantaría con ver a un zombi? Estoy seguro que existe gente morbosa que los atraparía para jugar con ellos o hacer experimentos, pero yo no me le acercaría a un bicho de esos. Me gustan mucho las cosas de terror gore, no obstante, vivirlo en carne propia sería algo diferente.
Destrucción. Caos. Gente siendo devorada viva en las calles o en sus casas. Saqueos. Estruendos de disparos de armas de fuego inundando tus oídos a cada rato. Muchos gritos por todas partes. Eso solo sería el comienzo, después vendría el éxodo de las poblaciones, miles de ciudades desiertas, sin servicio de internet, ni luz, ni agua. Conseguir medicamentos o venderlos sería un buen negocio en este nuevo mundo apocalíptico.
En términos generales, me imagino un apocalipsis zombi como en las primeras tres películas de Resident Evil, con la ciudad de Raccon City hecha añicos e inundada por miles de zombis hambrientos. Yo aprendería a usar armas de fuego o cualquier cosa que me ayude a defenderme. La ficción me ha enseñado que, cuando ocurre este tipo de catástrofes, no solo debes protegerte de los zombis sino también de los vivos que quieran aprovecharse de ti o robar tus cosas.
Es muy probable, aunque también lo dudo mucho. Si hablamos de como se genera un apocalipsis zombi de acuerdo a la ficción, lo veo muy poco probable. Si es por causa de un virus, dicha forma de vida no puede subsistir por mucho tiempo dentro del tejido muerto, y si lo que le proporciona los nutrientes necesarios para sobrevivir muere, entonces el virus también lo hará con el tiempo. Ahora si hablamos de algo sobrenatural, como por ejemplo, la magia; en este caso, el vudú, creo que sería muy probable; además de que la magia puede mantener a sus señuelos en perfecto estado hasta que se liquide a la fuente, pero como no hay evidencia exacta de que el vudú funcione, entonces pienso que es muy poco probable que un apocalipsis zombi ocurra.
Tendría que hacer lo que tengo que hacer: erradicarlo, sin embargo, si existe una cura, buscaría la manera de conseguirla y suministrársela, pero de no existir alguna cura, tendría que destruirlo. Cuando te conviertes en zombi, estás frito. Ya dejas de ser un humano. Todos tus recuerdos, sentimientos, pensamientos; todo lo que era parte de ti desaparece. Estarías muerto en vida y sería muy cruel de mi parte dejar a ese familiar seguir con ese destino. Al final, después de erradicarlo, lo enterraría dependiendo del valor sentimental que tuvo para mí.

The first representation of a zombie that comes to my mind, is an all-emaciated being with glassy, lifeless eyes, with sore, pale, parched, and pus proliferating skin. With rotten teeth and a mouth full of repulsive pustules. That is the image that is always sold to us by the fictional media, but I believe that a zombie can be different, it can be a creature covered with field weeds or an insignificant monster full of tar. They no mind of their own if I leave it to them since they are undead with no will of their own. They can easily come under a spell or be controlled by superior beings. That's how I imagine them a bit outside of everyday fiction.
Horrible (laughs). I would be very shocked. I would ask myself several questions and the first one would be: how is this possible? Then I would go to the next question: Is there a logical reason? And the third, depending on the situation: How can I kill it?
I'm sure more questions would be generated, but these are the ones that would settle in my mind. I won't deny that I would be very scared; who wouldn't freak out at the sight of a zombie? I'm sure some morbid people would catch them to play with them or do experiments, but I wouldn't go near one of those critters. I like gore horror stuff, however, living it in the flesh would be something different.
Destruction. Chaos. People are being eaten alive in the streets or their homes. Looting. Crackling gunfire floods your ears at every turn. Lots of screaming everywhere. That would only be the beginning, then would come the exodus of populations, thousands of deserted cities, with no internet service, no electricity, no water. Getting medicines or selling them would be a good business in this new apocalyptic world.
Generally speaking, I imagine a zombie apocalypse like in the first three Resident Evil movies, with the city of Raccoon City shattered and flooded by thousands of hungry zombies. I would learn to use firearms or anything to help me defend myself. Fiction has taught me that, when this kind of catastrophe happens, you must not only protect yourself from zombies but also from the living who want to take advantage of you or steal your stuff.
It is very likely, although I also doubt it very much. If we talk about how a zombie apocalypse is generated according to fiction, I see it very unlikely. If it is caused by a virus, that life form cannot subsist for long inside dead tissue, and if what provides it with the nutrients it needs to survive dies, then the virus will eventually die as well. Now if we are talking about something supernatural, such as magic; in this case, voodoo, I think it would be very likely; plus magic can keep its decoys in perfect condition until the source is liquidated, but since there is no exact evidence that voodoo works, then I think it is very unlikely that a zombie apocalypse would occur.
I would have to do what I have to do: eradicate it, however, if there is a cure, I would look for a way to get it and provide it, but if there is no cure, I would have to destroy it. When you become a zombie, you are toast. You are no longer human. All your memories, feelings, thoughts; everything that was part of you disappears. You would be dead in life and it would be very cruel of me to let that familiar continue with that fate. In the end, after eradicating it, I would bury it depending on the sentimental value it had for me.
